Herbal Clinical Week Experience – San Antonio 2017
September 11 - 9:00 AM - September 15 - 4:00 PM| $500
The clinical week experience is a 5-day clinical class and exercise for herbalists in the intermediate herbal medic program. This is a chance not only to learn and apply clinical skills as an individual, but also how to set up and run a clinic as a team.
The course will start September 11 – 15th, 2017, following the 2-day Emergency Childbirth hands-on training at our San Antonio campus.
Each clinical week is given an overall focus. The September San Antonio clinic will offer focus on herbal health care for women, children and individuals in need of herbal health care in communities of need. During this clinical week experience students will perform intake, prepare and run an apothecary, teach community education mini-lectures, and stabilization of both real clinical clients as part of the daily schedule. Students from the Doula and Family Herbalist program will also attend the clinical week to offer womens’ wellness consultations and classes around womens’ herbal health.
WHAT THE CLINICAL WEEK IS LIKE
Classes will be given in the areas of an herbal clinic setup (especially in a remote or post-disaster setting), medicine making (percolation tinctures), materia medica and round table discussions with case reviews.
Throughout the day, students will perform full subjective and objective intakes on clients, write up SOAP notes, practice clinical assessment skills, discuss assessments and protocols, and present work at an end-of-day roundtable discussion.
Students will also prepare, stock and maintain a working apothecary throughout the week, which may include preparing special protocols for clients, and possibly teach a short class to others. Between classes, intake, prep, study and presentation, most of the days will run a little on the long side.
Clinic location will be moved at least once, and will alternate between urban clinic locations. Moving the clinic will be a part of the experience.
All students will be working within leadership and team roles throughout the week.
